Teams Ready Themselves For ACT Armed Forces Day 150

The ACT Late Model Tour championship wars are settled among established race teams with the resources to lock horns against the northeast’s best for six grueling months each year. But the battles on the road to that championship are fought by the Saturday night short-trackers defending their home turf whenever the Tour rolls into their town.

Waterbury, VT – Tim, TJ, and Vanna Brackett have sent entries for the American Canadian Tour Armed Forces 150 this coming Sunday May 20. This will be the first time a father and daughter have raced together in an ACT race.

2010 Oxford Plains Speedway Late Model Champion Tim Brackett and son TJ Brackett have raced several times on the ACT Tour together. TJ has been hot at Oxford, finishing in the top ten in his last four starts with the Tour. This year the Oxford 150 is even more of a family affair.

ACT American Canadian TourThree former Oxford Plains Speedway ACT winners Randy Potter (02NH), Shawn Martin (94ME) and Ricky Rolfe (51ME) race for position during the 2012 season opener at Lee USA Speedway.

Waterbury, VT— The American Canadian Tour heads to Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME for the Oxford 150 next Sunday, May 20. For most teams, it serves as the fourth point counting event on the American Canadian Tour series and the last long distance event before the legendary Oxford 250. For a few, it is a return home.

Turner, ME’s Shawn Martin will be making the trip to Oxford in an effort to claim his third ACT victory. His resume at Oxford Plains Speedway stands out with two ACT victories, 11 weekly feature wins, and a 2004 Track Championship. Ricky Rolfe of Albany Township, ME is a multi-time champion of Oxford Plains Speedway and also owns two ACT victories at the track, most recently in 2008.

After two consecutive runner-up finishes on American Canadian Tour Wayne Helliwell Jr. was not the bridesmaid in round three of the 2012 season. Dominating the second half of the FOX 101.5 Spring Green 112 to pick up his first ever series victory at Devils Bowl Speedway in West Haven Vermont.

The Bruce Bernhardt owned team rolled into the half mile Vermont Speedbowl hoping for a better result than their 2011 mud exploration off the backstretch; which involved ankle deep mud and a tractor to remove the car. They would not be disappointed. Using the +/- passing system Helliwell would finish fourth in his heat netting +4 to start the 112 lap event from the third starting position. “We had a really balanced car right off the trailer, said Wayne. We made minimal changes throughout the day.”

OXFORD, Maine – Oxford Plains Speedway today released its 2012 racing schedule. The highlight of the schedule is the TD Bank 250 on July 22. NASCAR star Kyle Busch won the 2011 edition of the TD Bank 250, defeating the top Late Model pilots from around the region.

“Since 2004, the TD Bank 250 has attracted a number of Sprint Cup competitors. July 22, 2012, again falls on an off weekend for the Sprint Cup, so it is likely Oxford fans will have the opportunity to see a NASCAR star try and take the checkers,” Speedway owner Bill Ryan said. Oxford Plains Speedway Race Report

OXFORD, Maine – Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., posted his first career PASS North Series Top-5 finish by finishing fifth in the PASS Championship 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, October. 14. Hoar started on the outside pole after winning his heat race and led a total of 40 laps in the first half of the event, which was shortened to 118 laps by rain. The RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge loosened up significantly on the eight-time ACT Late Model Tour champion, who finished 11th in his PASS Super Late Model debut at Oxford back in July.

Oxford Plains Speedway Race Report

OXFORD, Maine – Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, finished 10th in the PASS North Series season finale, the PASS Championship 150, at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, October 15. Doiron, who ran a part-time schedule in 2011, finished 10th in the final PASS North standings after posting Top-10 finishes in five of his last six races. Dorion ran as high as second in the season finale at Oxford, but he lost valuable track position when he was forced to pit under caution on Lap 96 when his car shut down unexpectedly while running caution laps. He restarted at the back of the field and had worked all the way back to the Top-10 when the race was called after 118 laps by rain.

The final race of the 2011 season for the Benjamin Motorsports race team was this past weekend at Oxford Plains Speedway. Once again the team brought a very fast car and in practice the team posted the 3rd fastest time and the car was driving very well.

After qualifing 13th out of the 41 cars that attempted to qualify, Travis thought the car was very good. At the start of the 150 lap feature the 17 car was heading to the front. On lap 45 the team had moved into the top 5 and by lap 70 Travis was leading the field. The Benjamin Motorsports team would lead til around lap 100 and then Scott Mulkern made the pass for the lead. On the next restart Travis would take the lead again and lead til lap 112 and then once again Mulkern would make his way past Travis.

Scott Mulkern Wins PASS North Season Finale
Veteran Super Late Model Driver Snaps 7-Year Drought

OXFORD, Maine – Scott Mulkern of Falmouth, Maine, led the final 15 laps en route to his second career PASS North Series win with a victory in the season-ending PASS Championship 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday.

The race was called by rain after 118 laps. Two unsuccessful attempts were made by series officials to dry the track before the win was granted to Mulkern and the No. 84 Southern Maine Motors/Community Pharmacies Dodge.

THE STORY

FALMOUTH, Maine – Mulkern Racing will field a two-car effort as the PASS North Series puts the final touches on the 2011 season with the rain-delayed PASS Championship 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, October 15. Lonnie Sommerville sits second in the overall PASS North standings heading into the final race of the year, while team owner Scott Mulkern will make his fifth start of the season. Sommerville, who will lock up the Rookie of the Year title with the start on Saturday, finished second to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kyle Busch when the series last visited Oxford Plains in July, while Mulkern posted a season-best finish of second in his last outing – in the PASS 300 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway last month.

THE STORY

Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, joins the PASS North Series for the rain-delayed 2011 season finale, the PASS Championship 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, October 15. Doiron finished 10th in his last outing at Oxford in July, part of a stretch that has seen the former Rookie of the Year post Top-10 finishes in four of his last five starts. Despite running fewer races than the rest of the PASS North Series regulars as he focused on part-time competition this season, Doiron has already clinched a Top-10 finish in the overall standings in his sophomore year.
